Drone Operations Manager

Hummingbird was founded in 2016 and we are the only remote sensing business in UK agriculture to use artificial intelligence which gathers information from drone, plane and satellite technology, combined with weather and soil data and expert plant pathology, to enable precision agriculture.

We use the most advanced machine learning and computer vision techniques, delivering actionable insights on crop health directly to the field and were recently awarded KPMGs Best British Tech Startup 2019 and Cognition X Best AI Product for Agriculture 2018.

Existing backers of the business include The European Space Agency, Sir James Dyson, Horizon Ventures, Downing Ventures and Velcourt, the UK’s largest commercial farming operation. We also have tech partners which include Google UK and Cranfield University.

Your responsibilities

  • Manage the drone pilots schedules in the UK, i.e. making sure flights arent delayed and moving around pilots to keep flights on schedule
  • Organise and schedule training of new pilots
  • Support with providing documentation, i.e. contracts, reporting, checklists
  • Check data has been uploaded successfully on a daily basis
  • Be the first point of contact for all pilot questions (not relating to equipment)
  • Track pilot invoices compared to their work done
  • Become proficient in using our flight management software

Your qualifications:

  • You have experience with drones and photogrammetry
  • You dont shy away from integration work with agricultural hardware and software
  • You are proactive and require little oversight
  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • You show excellent communications skills
  • You are comfortable speaking with pilots and agronomists frequently over the phone and coordinating flights
  • You are highly organised and able to keep on top of many different tasks at once
  • You are proficient with Excel sheets and Google documents and tech-savvy when using new tools

Your background:

  • Demonstrated some operational experience dealing with different stakeholders
  • Proven strong organisational skills in the past
  • Successfully worked on projects yourself with limited supervision
  • Experience in managing time schedules
  • Strong interest in agriculture / remote sensing / precision agriculture
