full-time Feast It London

SENIOR BACK END DEVELOPER

London, England, United Kingdom

DESCRIPTION

Feast It is changing the events industry by building an online booking platform connecting anybody to the country’s best street food style caterers. Our events range from small private parties and corporate events, right up to festivals with 1.5 million attendees. We’ve created the one-stop solution for finding the best event catering, whatever the event.

From Dirtyburger to Bao and Five Points to Patty & Bun, we work with over 400 of the most exciting food and drink producers in the country. Were 18 months into our journey, and so far weve seen nothing but rapid growth. Our team is expanding, our office keeps growing, weve recently fed 3 million mouths at public festivals, and we are smashing all of our targets!

We work out of an awesome office just two minutes from Aldgate East station that boasts a free gym, a beer fridge, a roof terrace and generally speaking, not terrible people. Were a young and fun team, all passionate about food and excited about playing a part in building a disruptive food business.

Sound tasty?

After two years of tremendous growth, we’re trebling the size of our tech team from 2 to 6 and we’re going to hit 2019 running with some really exciting development. If you love food, as much as we do and you’re excited about supporting independent businesses by building a product that will change thousands of events for the better, read on!

We’re looking for an ambitious, food-loving, Senior Back End Developer to join the team at this really exciting stage of growth. You’ll work closely with our Lead Developer, Product Manager and cross-functional stakeholders to create best-in-class user experiences for both our paying customers and our treasured street food and drink vendors.

You’ll be the first Back End specialist to join the team, tasked with helping us build (and scale) the dreams and ambitions we have for our product. As the sole Back End specialist, we’ll rely on you to help us build the business and its technology on strong foundations as we work to become the world’s number one curated event booking platform.

Here is where you come in:

Your role will play a part in actively shaping and changing the business and product that is Feast It. Working within a small team of Developers that will grow throughout 2019, your work will make a real difference to the evolution of the company from Tech-enabled to Tech-centric and as the business grows, help open up endless progression opportunities for yourself and the team.

The Technical bit:

The platform as a whole has a 3 Tier Architecture; hoorah for separation of concerns!

The data-layer sits in Docker and uses Postgres, ElasticSearch, and Redis. The middleware has been built on Node using Express, Sequelize, Passport, integrating with AWS, Postmark, Prismic and others. Payments are managed through Stripe. All of this is tested using Mocha, and we use Gitlab’s CI for builds and deployments to our environments.

There are two frontend apps: the feast-it.com site itself, and an administrative platform that allows us to manage their bookings. Both these are built as SPAs on crispy new JavaScript and CSS, React, Redux, SASS - and built with Babel and Webpack.

We care far more about attitude, ideas and intelligence than experience, but, as with many technical roles, some skills come with the territory. Up to date experience with JavaScript, including ES6 and ES2017/18 features, modern frameworks, and industry best practices are ideal.

Also having worked with other scaling (and even better if marketplace) start-ups is fantastic news, so you can bring that start-up mentality and thrive in the fast-paced environment that it often brings, including dealing with a bit of ambiguity, big challenges and changing requirements.

You’ll be familiar with agile development process and sprints and comfortable mentoring junior members of the dev team; their progression is your progression.

We’re an office made up of people talking about food all day, every day, if you can get involved then the more the better!
