Simulation Engineer - Thermal/Structural

full-time Faraday Grid Berlin

Looking for an exciting new project, where your thermal/structural design and analysis skills will have a direct impact on the development of new innovative electrical and electromagnetic products in the Energy Industry?

We are Faraday Grid

Faraday Grid is a purpose driven company, focused on significantly impacting the Energy Trilemma by facilitating a transition to affordable, reliable and clean energy.

We’re a startup organisation with strong investor backing and global partnerships, that has grown to a team of almost 100 people across four European locations; Edinburgh (Head Quarters) and London in the UK, and Prague and Pardubice in the Czech Republic.

Our exceptionally talented team is made up of a diverse group of brilliant minds from the fields of engineering, physics, mathematics and software development. We challenge and solve real world problems, developing some of the most sophisticated technical solutions in the energy market.

Project Overview

The project will be developing a platform t to enable significant energy savings and change the way energy is traded. The device technology replaces traditional transformers and can solve network issues including voltage and power control. Combined with our patented software platform, the technology can enable a self-balancing, decentralised system which can maximise the inclusion of distributed and variable energy resources, helping to solve the challenges posed by de-carbonisation and the need to supply affordable and reliable energy.

You will be responsible for analysing thermal and structural behaviour within transformer and electrical cubicle design. In addition to key tasks related to thermal and structural analysis, you may also be asked to perform other analysis types (e.g. CFD, vibrations, etc.) as well as to contribute to design using CAD tools.

Why Should You Join Us?

  • You’ll join a small international and multicultural team of 7 in which every single team member has a direct and high impact on our projects.
  • You will take ownership of analysis and modelling investigations and explore new ways to test and validate simulation results.
  • You will make an impact by delivering analysis reports to identify design and manufacturing recommendations.
  • Your analysis work will feed directly into the engineering and supply chain team to build prototypes and products.

About You

  • You understand the possibilities and boundaries of FEM thermal, mechanical and CFD simulation software and you enjoy applying these tools effectively and reliably to simulate product performance.
  • You’ve had exposure to Simulation tools such as ANSYS and/or SolidWorks and you’d like to further improve your skills in simulation.
  • You’ve acquired some knowledge of designing forced air cooling and oil cooling for transformers and other electrical equipment and you’d be willing to learn and gain more practical experience in this area.
  • You’re great at clearly communicating your designs and concepts in English and you enjoy presenting your ideas to your peers and leaders, with an expectation of receiving appropriate feedback
  • You are curious and passionate about researching and developing new technologies and innovations that can make an impact in the world.
  • You are willing to travel to collaborate and support the manufacturing and commissioning of new products.
  • You are qualified to a Bachelors or Masters level in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.

We Offer

In addition to a competitive salary, we also offer:

  • Multicultural environment
  • Personal development opportunities (training, internal mobility…)
  • Ability to contribute to the greater good by helping decrease electricity cost
  • A safe environment without micro-management
  • 25 days holiday and some extra “bridge days”
  • Meal Vouchers
  • Free phone line
  • Flexible working hours
  • Retirement plan contributions so you can save for the future

This is an opportunity in which you will genuinely see the results of your efforts, apply now!
