The Role

Head of Localisation / Translations Manager

The Head of Localisation / Translations Manager will lead the translations function from our London office, assisting SiteMinder through a time of rapid growth and exciting transition - not just for Europe, but globally too.

Reporting to and working closely with our director of marketing for EMEA, the Head of Localisation / Translations Manager will be responsible for the development, productivity and output of the highest standards of this dynamic department. From tools and translation memories, to external vendors, internal process optimisation and people development, the role will own and guide the team and function into a new phase at SiteMinder.

We currently cover 20+ languages in more than 160 countries within our market-leading hotel technology products. From a marketing standpoint, we execute brilliant brand awareness and lead generation campaigns using email, third party advertising, public relations, content marketing and customer upgrades, all in our five key European languages - French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

The Head of Localisation / Translation Manager will combine acquired skills as a translations specialist with proven management experience. The right candidate is a linguist at heart, passionate about language and authentic localisation.

Hire, lead and mentor the in-house team of native language speakers across all key SiteMinder market languages, responsible for translating, localising and reviewing all web copy, editorial, marketing copy, product descriptions and ad hoc translation requests.

Build, onboard and maintain a network of named and approved freelance translators/reviewers to support the internal team as back-up team during holiday and capacity management

Review existing localisation processes across the company. Analyse processes in order to develop a best practice strategy, and support and advise internal requestor teams (marketing, product and development, services etc) on the value of the implementation of/ the adherence to SLAs and an improved translations process flow in support of our technology platform.

Manage team capacity, workload, project assignment, timelines, file preparation, glossary, translation memory tool and vendors, administrative work, analysis, reporting and budgets, representing the translations team within SiteMinder both up and downstream.

Ensure the provision of service suppliers is cost-effective and that quality standards are defined, established, maintained and lead a culture of continuous improvement and quality monitoring. Set the standard for BAU project management excellence with a team driven by frequent deadlines and high volume targets.

Work closely with the field marketing team, the in-house creative studio and web team, who use the language to create our language assets.

Work with key marketing and brand leaders to develop a long term language strategy that drives our business growth forward.

Drive a customer focused ethos within the team, keeping our clients and their experience at the fore.

As the Head of Localisation / Translations Manager, you will:
Experience either leading a productive in-house translation team, or in a senior position leading a team at an agency. You have a proactive, problem-solving “can-do” approach that builds team spirit.

Experience working with onboarding external vendors and freelance translators/reviewers.

Proven, up-to-date knowledge of translation memory and translation management workflows/software, e.g. Smartling/ Trados or similar.

You have a degree in translation/ linguistics/ computational linguistic or equivalent relevant experience.

You are a fluent speaker of a European language, preferably Portuguese, in addition English communication skills.

Strong organisational, project management and multi-tasking skills and the ability to handle pressure and be efficient when delivering to tight deadlines.

Demonstrated high standards regarding translation quality and attention to detail.

Exceptional people and stakeholder management skills

Experience in working in matrix organisations and across different time zones.

Advantageous: You will have experience with Apple, Gmail Office Suite and Microsoft Office (for Apple), Asana, Slack.

Preferable B2B / SaaS background.
